Which Mercedes steering wheel fits each A-Class generation
The term Mercedes steering wheel covers several different wheel bases on the A-Class. Compatibility depends on the generation, the spoke design and the type of controls fitted to the original wheel.
For the W176, the base covers the A180 to A250 as well as the A45 AMG. For the W177, compatibility covers the A180 to A250 as well as the A35 and A45 AMG, then the facelift W177 with the latest tactile control wheel, depending on the model year.
What changes from one generation to another
From one A-Class to another, the steering wheel controls, paddles and insert shapes are not the same. The outline of the central airbag also needs to match the original wheel base exactly.
Depending on the model year, some configurations also retain steering wheel heating when it is fitted as original equipment. On the facelift W177, the main point is the integration of the latest tactile controls and keeping a clean assembly around the functional areas.
What the bespoke build keeps and what you can change
The work is carried out on the original wheel base. This keeps the mounting points, compatible controls, paddles where fitted and the original airbag kept.
Personalisation focuses on materials and finishing details. You can choose woven carbon for its regular pattern, or forged carbon for a more mineral look, then pair it with Alcantara, Nappa or perforated leather, with stitching, a 12 o’clock marker, a flat-bottom shape and grip areas suited to how the car is used.
Fitting, checks and care
Fitting should be entrusted to a professional. This is the right way to check compatibility depending on the model year, refit the controls correctly and reinstall the original components properly.
Before dispatch, each piece goes through a pre-dispatch check, recorded and dated. An SGS inspection is also mentioned, and the work is covered by a 5-year warranty. For care, gentle regular cleaning helps preserve Alcantara, Nappa, perforated leather and carbon lacquer finishes.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my Mercedes A-Class steering wheel is compatible?
Compatibility depends on the generation and the model year. The configurators cover the W176, the W177 and the facelift W177 with the latest tactile control wheel.
Is the original airbag kept?
Yes, the work is carried out on the original wheel base with original airbag kept. The central shape therefore remains linked to your original setup.
Should fitting be done by a professional?
Yes, fitting by a professional is recommended. This allows the controls, paddles and any steering wheel related equipment to be checked properly depending on the model year.
What care does Alcantara and carbon need?
Gentle, regular care is recommended. Alcantara should be cleaned without aggressive products, and carbon areas are best maintained with a clean, non-abrasive cloth.
Does the lead time depend on the chosen specification?
Yes, because each build is made to order in our workshop. The materials, stitching and selected options all affect the production time.
