BMW M2, M3 and M4: compatibility depends on the generation
Compatibility is not handled in the same way across E90 / E92 / E93, F80 / F82 / F83 / F87 and G80 / G82 / G83 / G87. The shape, controls, paddle shifters and some equipment vary depending on the model year.
For a BMW M4 steering wheel on E90 / E92 / E93-based cars, the base and interfaces differ from later F and G generations. On M3, M4 and M2 models from the F and G series, the steering wheel controls, paddle shifters and, depending on the model year, heating must also be taken into account.
What a bespoke BMW M steering wheel keeps from the original setup
The work is carried out on the original wheel base. This keeps the mounting points, the integration of the controls and the original airbag kept.
The original vehicle architecture is retained. Depending on the chosen setup, paddle shifters, trim pieces and existing functions are reused so that the finished assembly remains consistent with the rest of the driving position.
Materials, shapes and finishes in the M Performance style
For an M Performance style result, the choice of materials clearly changes both the feel in the hand and the visual impression. Woven carbon gives a regular pattern, while forged carbon has a more mineral and more pronounced appearance.
Alcantara gives a matte, technical feel. Nappa leather offers a softer touch, and perforated leather adds texture. Personalisation can include a flat-bottom shape, a 12 o'clock marker, contrast stitching and, depending on the base, adaptation around the paddle shifters.
Fitting, checks and care
Fitting should be entrusted to a professional, especially on these generations where the controls, paddle shifters and airbag require careful handling. Before dispatch, a pre-dispatch check, recorded and dated, is carried out.
Care mainly depends on the material selected. Alcantara needs gentle, regular cleaning. Nappa leather and perforated leather should be maintained with suitable products, without excess moisture. The 5-year warranty applies to the workmanship.

Alcantara should be cleaned with gentle methods and suitable products. Carbon is best maintained with a clean, non-abrasive cloth, while avoiding harsh products on lacquered areas.
