On these models, the key point is the steering wheel generation. Spoke design, thumb controls, airbag shape and any heating function can change depending on the model year.
The bases covered here include first-generation CLA, GLA and GLC applications, then newer CLA, GLA, GLC and GLE versions, through to the latest steering wheel layouts. A visual check of the original wheel remains the most reliable method before confirmation.
What changes from one base to another
From one generation to another, the controls are not always transferred in the same way. Some bases have wider side buttons, while others use a newer control layout with a different spoke outline.
Paddles can also differ in shape and mounting. On some vehicles, steering wheel heating needs specific attention, as does the design of the centre airbag. That is why compatibility is always checked against the model year and the equipment fitted to the original wheel.
What the tailored build keeps and what you can personalise
The work is carried out on the original wheel base. This keeps the vehicle integration intact and means the original airbag kept remains part of the setup, subject to compatibility of the chosen base.
Personalisation then focuses on materials and grip shape. Depending on the look and use you want, you can choose forged or woven carbon, Alcantara, Nappa leather or perforated leather, with contrast stitching, a 12 o’clock marker, a flat bottom and finishes suited to the vehicle’s use.
Fitting, checks and warranty
Fitting should be carried out by a professional. This is the right approach to check the transfer of controls, paddles and heating-related parts where the vehicle is equipped with them.
Each build is made to order in our workshop, then checked before dispatch. You benefit from a pre-dispatch check, recorded and dated, an SGS inspection and a 5-year warranty.
