How to tell Mégane 3 RS and Mégane 4 RS apart

Compatibility is not only about diameter or overall shape. Between the Mégane 3 RS and the Mégane 4 RS, the control layout, spokes and some original equipment can vary depending on the model year.

If you are searching for a renault megane steering wheel, it is also important to consider GT versions and differences in interior layout. The correct base always depends on the wheel originally fitted to the car.

On these platforms, the aim of a bespoke build is to keep what needs to stay on the car and rebuild the rim with a finish suited to road or track use.

What changes from one generation to another

On Mégane 3 RS, the controls and spoke shape follow the original base for the model concerned, whether that is RS 250, 265, 275 Trophy or Trophy-R. On Mégane 4 RS and GT, the interfaces differ depending on the model year and the equipment fitted to the vehicle.

Paddles, where present on the original base, need to be considered from the start of the configuration. The same applies to heated steering wheel functions, which require precise compatibility with the original equipment.

The airbag is not replaced by a universal part. The approach is simple: original airbag kept, with the matching original base reused.

What bespoke configuration allows on this model

The online configurator lets you build a setup for Mégane 4 while keeping the vehicle’s original integration logic. The original base is rebuilt to order in our workshop, with grip geometry and finishes chosen by the customer.

For materials, woven carbon gives a structured and technical visual finish. Forged carbon has a more random pattern, with a more mineral look to the material. Alcantara suits dynamic driving well, while Nappa leather or perforated leather suit other preferences for touch and upkeep.

Personalisation can cover the flat bottom, the 12 o’clock marker, stitching colour and certain grip areas. The aim is not to add unnecessary effects, but to create a coherent result that matches the Renault Sport interior.

Fitting, checks and care

Fitting should be entrusted to a professional. This makes it possible to check the controls, any paddles and the equipment present on the car according to the model year.

Before dispatch, each build goes through a pre-dispatch check, recorded and dated. An SGS inspection is also mentioned, together with a 5-year warranty.

For care, Alcantara should be cleaned with gentle movements and suitable products. Nappa leather and perforated leather need regular but simple care, while carbon areas should be cleaned with a non-abrasive microfibre cloth.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my model is compatible?

Compatibility is checked according to the model year and the exact version of the original wheel. Between Mégane 3 RS, Mégane 4 RS and GT, some controls or options require a specific base.

Is the airbag kept?

Yes. Original airbag kept is part of the original-base rebuild approach. This helps maintain the integration intended for the vehicle.

Should fitting be done by a professional?

Yes, that is the recommended option. A professional can check refitting, controls and steering-wheel-related equipment according to the car’s configuration.

How do I care for Alcantara, leather and carbon?

Alcantara needs gentle and regular cleaning. Leather and carbon are straightforward to maintain with suitable products and non-abrasive methods.

How long should I allow?

Each build is made to order in our workshop. Timing depends on the base concerned and the level of personalisation chosen when ordering.
