Two Cupra generations to tell apart
On Formentor, Leon, Ateca and Born depending on the model year, the architecture differs from the earlier generation. This includes Cupra versions with satellite buttons and capacitive controls, with a design and interfaces specific to that family.
On Seat Leon FR / Cupra and Ibiza depending on the model year, the earlier generation uses a different base. The shape, controls, paddles and some options such as heating require a compatibility check before any work begins.
This distinction matters because two assemblies can look very similar while hiding differences in wiring, spokes or modules. The correct base is identified by the model and the model year.
What the custom rebuild keeps from your original base
The work is carried out on the original steering wheel base. This keeps the elements linked to the vehicle’s integration, with original airbag kept where the configuration allows for it.
Existing controls are taken into account according to the generation. Paddles, heating and specific modules are checked case by case to match the equipment already fitted to the vehicle.
Before dispatch, each piece goes through a pre-dispatch check, recorded and dated. An SGS inspection completes this quality follow-up.
Materials and custom options for a Cupra steering wheel
The specification is put together according to how the car is used and the finish you want. Woven carbon highlights a regular visual pattern, while forged carbon gives a more mineral and fragmented appearance.
For contact areas, Alcantara brings a matt feel and secure grip. Nappa gives a smoother grain, while perforated leather creates a more ventilated feel in the hands.
The finish can stay understated or become more defined. Stitching, a 12 o’clock marker, a flat-bottom shape and paddles can be selected to stay consistent with the cabin and with the character of the model.
Fitting, compatibility and care
Fitting should be entrusted to a professional. More than 100 partner garages can handle this type of work depending on the area and the vehicle.
Compatibility depends on the model and the model year. Between a recent Cupra base with capacitive controls and an earlier-generation Seat Leon FR / Cupra or Ibiza base, the technical details are not the same.
For care, gentle and regular cleaning is enough. Alcantara needs suitable attention to preserve its appearance, while leather and carbon sections can be maintained with simple methods and non-aggressive products.

Is the airbag retained?
Yes, the work is carried out on the original base with original airbag kept. The final check depends on the equipment fitted to your vehicle.
Do I need professional fitting for a Cupra steering wheel?
Yes, professional fitting is recommended. This helps ensure the correct procedures are followed for controls, paddles and integrated components.
What lead time should I expect?
Each build is made to order in our workshop. Timing depends on the chosen configuration and the production schedule at the time of order.
